Cookie Policy

What MapAndMove.se stores in your browser, and why we set no cookies.

1

What this is about

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are used to make the site work, remember your settings or collect statistics.

MapAndMove.se sets no cookies of its own. What we save sits in the browser's local storage (localStorage), which works the same way for you but with one important difference: the contents are never sent automatically to any server. It stays in your browser until you clear it. We describe it here anyway, since it is the same thing you want to know.

Under the Swedish Electronic Communications Act (2022:482), chapter 9, section 4, data may only be stored in or retrieved from your equipment if you are given information about the purpose and you consent. Consent is not required, however, for storage that is needed to transmit a message over a communications network, or that is necessary to provide a service you have expressly requested.

Everything we store falls within that exception: it is your own choices and the material you created yourself, saved at your request so the site works as you left it. We use no storage for marketing, advertising or cross-site tracking, and the visitor statistics neither set cookies nor read anything from your device. No consent is therefore required, and that is why we show no banner.

The supervisory authority for these rules is the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS). For personal data it is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

What do we save in your browser?

Everything we save exists so the site can remember your own choices between visits:

  • Language and theme: your chosen language and whether you use light or dark mode
  • Your own material on the map: saved municipalities, pins, notes, drawn areas, comparisons and visited municipalities
  • Technical settings: which map layers you have had switched on, which municipalities you have visited and whether you chose fast mode
  • Technical caches: the addresses of the map's data files and a copy of the site's own texts in your language, so the page does not have to fetch them again on every visit. They contain nothing about you
  • Visitor statistics: we use Plausible Analytics, which we host on our own servers. It neither sets cookies nor stores IP addresses

What you have saved in the browser, that is items 1 to 3 above, is never sent to us automatically and disappears when you clear your browser data. The site is then reset to its default state. The visitor statistics are the only thing that goes to our server, and they store nothing on your device.

One exception: if you open a “continue on another device” link, your saved material sits in the fragment part of the address, and that is sent along when the page view is counted in our visitor statistics. The statistics do not save that part of the address, but it does pass through our server.

Types of storage

Type Purpose Storage duration
Necessary (localStorage) Language choice, theme and basic functionality Until you clear browser data
Your choices (localStorage) Saved municipalities, pins, notes, comparisons and map layers Until you clear your browser data
Statistics Anonymous visitor statistics via Plausible Nothing is stored on your device
Marketing and tracking We have no advertising, tracking or social media scripts and do not track you across websites. The map may contain paid placements, but they are delivered from our own server Nothing is stored on your device
5

Third-party cookies

We do not embed any advertising, tracking or social media scripts, so no third-party cookies are set via the site. The following external services deliver files to your browser and therefore see your IP address, even though they store nothing on your device:

  • Bunny CDN: delivers the map tiles and the map's style files. Sets no cookies but keeps its own operational logs
  • Flagcdn.com: delivers the flag icons in the language selector, and is only fetched when you open the language menu
  • Unpkg and Open-Meteo: called only by our older municipality page, which remains in place for links pointing to it. Unpkg delivers the map library and Open-Meteo the weather forecast, which then receives the municipality's coordinates

Scripts, stylesheets, fonts, images and search are delivered from our own servers, not from Google or OpenStreetMap. What the external services receive is set out in our privacy policy.

Managing and deleting

You can control and delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Note that if you block or clear the storage, some features are affected: language choice and theme are forgotten, and saved municipalities, pins and notes disappear because they exist only on your device. If you want to keep them, use the "continue on another device" link in the saved menu before clearing.

Most browsers offer the ability to:

  • See which cookies and what storage exist
  • Delete individual entries or all of them
  • Block storage from specific websites
  • Block all storage entirely
