Cookie policy

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are used to make the site work, remember your settings or collect statistics.

MapAndMove.se sets no cookies for statistics, advertising or tracking. The only cookie, mm_skal, only set if you yourself change the site's look. What we otherwise save is in the browser's local storage (localStorage), which works the same way for you but with one important difference: the content is not sent automatically to any server. The exception is if you sign in, because what you save is then synced encrypted to your account. Otherwise it stays in your browser until you clear it. We describe it here anyway, since it is the same thing you want to know.

Under the Swedish Electronic Communications Act (2022:482), chapter 9, section 28, data may only be stored in or retrieved from your equipment if you are given information about the purpose and you consent. Consent is not required, however, for storage that is needed to transmit a message over a communications network, or that is necessary to provide a service you have expressly requested.

Everything we store falls within that exemption: it is your own choices and the material you created yourself, saved at your request so that the site works the way you left it. We use no storage for marketing, advertising or tracking across websites, and the visit statistics set no cookies and read nothing from your device except your own choice not to be counted. Therefore no consent is required, and therefore we show no banner.

The supervisory authority for these rules is the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS). For personal data it is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Everything we save exists so the site can remember your own choices between visits:

• Language and theme: your chosen language and whether you use light or dark mode
• Your own material on the map: saved municipalities, pins, notes, drawn areas, comparisons and visited municipalities
• Technical settings: which map layers you have had switched on, which municipalities you have visited and whether you chose fast mode
• Technical caches: the addresses of the map's data files and a copy of the site's own texts in your language, so the page does not have to fetch them again on every visit. They contain nothing about you
• Sign-in: if you sign in, the login key and your email address are saved here, so the device remembers who you are
• Visitor statistics: we use Plausible Analytics, which we host on our own servers. It sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses, and it does not count you at all if your browser sends Global Privacy Control. Everything it sends is listed at Visit data

What you have saved in the browser, that is items 1 to 3 above, is not sent automatically to us and disappears when you clear browser data. The site then resets to its starting state. If you are signed in, saved places, map pins, views, comparisons, watches and anything else you saved yourself are synced encrypted to your account, and settings such as theme and language stay on the device. Visitor statistics also go to our server, but they store nothing on your device.

The choice not to be counted is saved in the browser's local storage as plausible_ignore, only if you yourself press the button:

Links of the "continue on another device" kind carry your saved material in the part of the address after #. The browser never sends that part to any server, and the visit statistics count only the page address without search terms, coordinates or saved material.

We do not embed any advertising, tracking or social media scripts, so no third-party cookies are set via the site. The following external services deliver files to your browser and therefore see your IP address, even though they store nothing on your device:

• Wikimedia Commons: delivers photographs on place pages and in the map's place cards
• The Swedish Public Employment Service (Platsbanken): delivers the job vacancies on a municipality's labour market page

Scripts, stylesheets, fonts, flags, map images and search are delivered from our own servers, not from Google or OpenStreetMap. What the external services receive is set out in our privacy policy.

You can control and delete cookies and local storage in your browser's settings. Note that if you block or clear storage, some features are affected: language choice and theme are forgotten, and saved municipalities, pins and notes disappear from the device. If you have an account, what was synced comes back when you sign in again. Without an account, use the "continue on another device" link in the saved menu before you clear.

Most browsers offer the ability to:

• See which cookies and what storage exist
• Delete individual entries or all of them
• Block storage from specific websites
• Block all storage entirely
