Strömma

Strömma is a town in Värmdö municipality in Stockholm County, with just under 2,800 inhabitants. The town lies around the bridge where Värmdöleden crosses Strömma kanal, between Värmdölandet and Fågelbrolandet. By the canal there are restaurants, shops, leisure boat yards and a marina fuel station.

Everyday life here depends on the car. Most people live on large plots, with the sea a couple of minutes' walk away and the forest just across the road. The grocery shop and the school are a bike or car ride away, and there is no train station or railway, the nearest are more than ten kilometres away. The town has three restaurants, among them Strömma kanalbar and Bistro Lillströmma, a preschool and a few playgrounds. The hotel Fågelbrohus is within cycling distance. Strömma Hembygdsgård is the town's museum.

The main road runs right next to most houses. The lakes Kroksjön and Korsmosjön are within walking distance. Several contaminated sites are registered, the nearest within walking distance but not close, and a nature reserve is several kilometres away.

It takes about three quarters of an hour by car to Stockholm, and about half an hour to the municipality's main town. Gustavsberg, a larger neighbouring town, is a bike or car ride away. The area around the town has many middle-aged people and families with children, about one in four is under twenty and fewer are over sixty-five.

Strömma suits someone who wants space, water and Stockholm within driving distance. Anyone who wants to manage everyday life without a car will have to look elsewhere.
