Kangos

Kangos, in Meänkieli Kangonen, is a town in Junosuando parish in Pajala municipality in Norrbotten, by the Lainio river. The town has just over two hundred inhabitants.

The grocery shop, Handlarn Kangos, is within walking distance but not close for most people, and a petrol station is about as far away. A school and Kangos kyrka are near the centre, and a campsite, Udden Fritidsområde, is a couple of minutes' walk away. There is no restaurant or railway station nearby, and the nearest are several tens of kilometres away. About ten contaminated sites are registered in the town, and there is flood risk within walking distance but not close.

Water is a couple of minutes' walk away for many, with Takajärvi just as close, forest close in and fields a couple of minutes' walk away. A power line runs a couple of minutes' walk from the houses.

Pajala, the municipality's main town, is about an hour away by car. The neighbouring town of Junosuando is almost nine kilometres away. The area around the town is much older than the country as a whole: almost half are over sixty-five and only one in eight is under twenty. PRO Kangos and Kangos kyrka bring the residents together.

Kangos suits those who want wilderness, river and stillness and take the car to everything except the daily groceries. Those who want a job market or services nearby will have to look elsewhere.
