Stråssa

Stråssa is a built-up area with just over two hundred and fifty inhabitants in Ramsberg parish in Lindesberg municipality in Västmanland, about twenty-three kilometres north of Lindesberg. Storå, with just under two thousand inhabitants, is three kilometres away and Ramsberg six.

Daily life requires a car. Most live a bike ride or drive from the nearest food shop and school, and the railway station is just as far away. The nearest restaurant is fourteen kilometres away, a library and care home five. The village mainly has Navet, where Stråssa hembygdsförening has its premises, a couple of minutes' walk from the centre of the village. The bathing spot is within walking distance but not close, and the lake Dammsjön is a couple of minutes' walk from most houses.

Fields and forest are close, and a main road runs right next to most houses. A couple of contaminated sites are registered in the village, the nearest a couple of minutes' walk away. Industry and railway are just over a kilometre and three kilometres away respectively.

To the municipality's main town it takes a quarter of an hour by car, to Stockholm three hours and to Göteborg four and a half. The area around the village is older: three in ten are over sixty-five. The municipality has a lower median income and a lower share with post-secondary education than the country as a whole, and an old history of ironworks and mining.

Stråssa suits someone who wants peace and forest. Those who want services nearby or public transport will find it hard.
