Ekshärad is a built-up area and church village by the Klarälven in Hagfors municipality in Värmland, with just under 1,000 inhabitants. The town was called Kyrkheden until 1980.
Everyday life is found in the town. To the grocery shop, ICA Indianen, it is a couple of minutes' walk, and Pekås is also nearby. To the school, Kyrkhedens skola, it is within walking distance but not close. There is also a pharmacy, a post office, a petrol station, two cafés, two restaurants, Wärdshuset Pilgrimen, a campsite, an electrical shop and four sports halls and sports grounds. There is no railway station nearby, so commuting is by car. Forest and main road lie right up against the houses.
The Klarälven and the water are a couple of minutes' walk away, and a flood risk within walking distance but not close. About fifteen contaminated sites are registered in the town, the nearest a couple of minutes' walk from the centre.
Hagfors is half an hour away by car. To Stockholm and Göteborg it is five hours each. The area around the town has many older people: four in ten are over sixty-five and only about one in seven is under twenty. Hagfors municipality is sparsely populated with a shrinking population, and commuting towards Karlstad is a recurring theme. Hembygdsgården and kyrkstallarna are sights.
Ekshärad suits someone who wants to live by the river with a shop and services nearby and has a car. Anyone who wants a train or a younger district will not find it here.
