Våxtorp is a built-up area in Laholm municipality in Halland County, with just under 1,100 inhabitants. The village is the church village of Våxtorp parish and lies a quarter of an hour by car from the municipality's main town Laholm. To Malmö it takes about an hour and a half and to Gothenburg two hours, also by car.
Most houses lie right next to a major road, with the forest just across the road and the fields within a couple of minutes' walk. The grocery store, ICA Nära Våxbohallen, is also a couple of minutes' walk away, and there is a bakery, a petrol station, a restaurant and a fast food place. There is a school in the village, but many houses are far from it. There is no train station nearby, so commuting means a car. The nearest lake, Storsjön, is within walking distance but not close, and a swimming pool is nearby.
The downside is the ground: about ten registered land contaminations lie in the village, the nearest a couple of minutes' walk from the middle, and an industry lies within the same distance for most houses.
Association life is noticeable for the size, with a community hall association, a local heritage association, a football club and a tennis club. The area around the village has many older people, just over a quarter are over sixty-five, but also almost a quarter children and young people. Våxtorp suits those who want to live in a small community with a shop and village life and are not afraid of the car. Those who want trains or a wider range close to the door will have to look further away.
