The town lies by the river Silverån, and county road 129 passes through it. Lönneberga is a neighbouring village that is counted separately in the statistics, and Hultsfred, with just over 5,600 inhabitants, is a quarter of an hour away by car.
The railway is a couple of minutes' walk away, and the railway stations Silverdalen and Lönneberga are nearby, which is unusual for a municipality of this size. The grocery store, Nära dej Silverdalen, and the school, Silverdalens skola, are within walking distance but not close for most, but the school is near the middle. Here are also a petrol station, Folkets hus and a church, and within a few kilometres a bank and two hostels. Målasjön is a bike or car ride away, while water is a couple of minutes' walk away.
