Living here
Alberga is a built-up area in Eskilstuna municipality in Södermanland with just under 400 inhabitants, in Öja parish about twenty-five kilometres south-west of Eskilstuna and a short way north of Hjälmaresund. The town is sometimes called Stora Sundby, which is the name of the postal town and of the nearby castle Stora Sundby slott.
The shop and the school are a couple of minutes' walk from most houses. The town has ICA Nära, Qstar, Alberga bibliotek, Hammargärdets skola and a playground, and Öja kyrka and Västermo kyrka are nearby. Hjälmaren is within walking distance but not close. There is no railway station nearby at all: the nearest is a car ride away. A couple of contaminated sites are registered in the town.
It is half an hour by car to Eskilstuna, about two hours to Stockholm and five to Gothenburg. The population around the town is somewhat older: just over one in four inhabitants is over sixty-five and just under a quarter are under twenty. The median income of the municipality is somewhat below the national median. Alberga suits someone who wants to live in the countryside near Hjälmaren with a shop, a school and a library on foot and has a car. Anyone who commutes by public transport should live closer to Eskilstuna.
