Living here
Svalsta is a built-up area in Nyköping municipality in Södermanland with about 1,100 inhabitants, located along the old E4 nine kilometres west of Nyköping. There, shop, school and preschool are a couple of minutes' walk for most people, and the school lies almost right alongside the centre. The major road also runs close by. There is no train station nearby, so a car is needed.
Svalsta has a clear family-with-children character: nearly one in three inhabitants is under twenty and fewer than one in five is a pensioner. There are about ten playgrounds, a sports ground in Enstaberga, Lilla äventyrsbanan, a parish hall, a local heritage farm and two churches, Tuna and Bergshammar. The nearest petrol station is within cycling or car distance. The neighbouring town of Enstaberga is within walking distance but not close and Bergshammar within cycling or car distance, and Nyköping is a quarter of an hour away by car. To Stockholm it takes about an hour and a half.
Ponds such as Fadadammen are at cycling distance, and forest lies close to the houses. Svalsta suits families with children who want the village close by but Nyköping's jobs within reach. Those who want a large range of restaurants and cafés must go into the town.
