Kalix is the place you move to in order to bring down your housing costs. Low rents, genuinely cheap flats and houses, a flat more or less straight away. You can get rent down towards a couple of thousand kronor and live perfectly well on under ten thousand a month without a car, and if you want to buy a house it is almost a case of pick and choose, even cheaper than in Luleå. The statistics fit the picture of a municipality without financial strain rather than a wealthy one. Median income at just over SEK 330,000 (2024) is just below the national municipal median, the share with low economic standard, twelve per cent, is clearly below the national average, and unemployment is among the lower in the country. Around it lie the archipelago, the fishing and a number of campsites.
