Day to day there are still the essentials, and more on the grocery side than you might think: a handful of shops spread across the area, a pharmacy, no bank but there is a branch of the state-run off-licence Systembolaget, a library and a couple of museums, including a caravan museum. Eating out is meagre, a few pizzerias and street-food kiosks. Up in the mountain resort of Borgafjäll there are hotels with spas and ski slopes, and around it lie about ten nature reserves and outdoor recreation areas plus a campsite.
