That feeling is backed up by the range of services. For its size there is an unusually good number of swimming pools, a handful of restaurants, a couple of ironworks museums, a branch of the state-run off-licence Systembolaget and sports halls, mostly concentrated in Robertsfors and the two larger villages. \"A good little place\" is a verdict that comes up again and again. At the same time, the depopulation is just as clear. The upper secondary school in the main town closed for lack of pupils, so upper-secondary-age teenagers commute to Umeå, and the housing market is thin. Building new on a cheap plot easily becomes a loss, since the houses are worth less than they cost to build, while the summer cottages by the sea have held their value better.
