Vill man röra på sig finns gym, flera sporthallar och förstås skidsystemen i Åre, Duved och Storlien. I Duved låg medianinkomsten på drygt 406 000 kronor och i Åre på 373 000, medan Järpen stannade på 305 000. In and around Åre itself there are around sixty restaurants and about twenty cafes, unusually many for its size, and Jämtland's food culture with local producers is something people mention with pride. There is a handful of bars and a couple of nightclubs, plenty of hotels, numerous campsites and shops for most everyday needs. If you want to stay active there are gyms, several sports halls and, of course, the ski systems in Åre, Duved and Storlien. Once the tourists have gone home, the entertainment and food scene shrinks, and a place where people are partly replaced with the season can feel lonely in the off season. Many people work one season in Åre and another on the west coast, and for children it can be difficult to build friendships that last when friends move away with their jobs. A car is essential in practice. Being a popular destination makes housing expensive, more expensive than in the mountain region generally, and that is felt by anyone who wants to move here for good. At the same time, the municipal average hides a divide between the villages. In Duved the median income was just over SEK 406,000 and in Åre SEK 373,000, while Järpen stayed at SEK 305,000. The same pattern shows up in education, where almost four in ten in Duved have gone on to higher education, against just over one in six in Järpen.
