What has shaped the town's reputation the most is instead the forensic psychiatric clinic, the old mental hospital that among others held Thomas Quick, and the self irony the town itself has cultivated around that notoriety. Much of the talk revolves around the facility and its escapes over the years, not around the town otherwise, and central Säter is sometimes described as somewhat run down. For the cinema, a wider range of entertainment and more shops, however, you go to Borlänge, which is nearby.
