Antalet anmälda brott ligger faktiskt under rikssnittet. Two things always come up when the town is mentioned: its motoring heritage and the train to Gothenburg. This is the place where SAAB was once the backbone, and the collapse is still mentioned whenever someone explains the town's ups and downs. The successors remain, NEVS, Koenigsegg and a string of engineering and automotive firms, and if you have the right engineering skills you will find it easy to get work here."},{"type":"p","text":"At the same time, Trollhättan is very much a commuter town, and the commuting is the big plus. The train to Gothenburg takes around 35 to 40 minutes and also stops in Gamlestaden, so if you live near the central station you are in practice under an hour from work or studies in the big city. Another draw is University West, a well-regarded institution that offers a housing guarantee. That alone makes the town easier to move to than many others for someone about to start studying. As a purely residential town it still occasionally gets labelled boring, half in jest."},{"type":"h2","text":"A broad range in the town centre"},{"type":"p","text":"Trollhättan is large enough to have most things, and almost everything is gathered in the town itself. Some forty restaurants, around fifteen cafés, two cinemas, three shopping centres and department stores, plus DIY stores and hypermarkets on the outskirts. If you want to be active there are plenty of sports halls, swimming pools, gyms and outdoor gyms. Saab Car Museum draws car enthusiasts, the locks and Kungsgrottan cave are among the sights, and around the town lie some sixty parks and green spaces along with a handful of campsites. This is not a place where you have to go elsewhere for everyday life."},{"type":"h2","text":"A divided town"},{"type":"p","text":"The statistics draw a town in the middle of Sweden on income, but clearly split in two internally. Median income sits around the national average, somewhat above the municipal median. But the share with low economic standard, 16 per cent, is clearly above average, and the gap between districts is large. From around SEK 188,000 in Kronogårds Torg and Frälsegården up to SEK 468,000 in Björndalen and Vårvik. In the lowest-paid areas the level of education is also lowest, which points to genuine socioeconomic division rather than a student effect. Thanks to the university, the municipality still has a high share of people with post-secondary education, just under 29 per cent."},{"type":"p","text":"The weak point is the labour market for young people and recent arrivals. Unemployment of just over seven per cent is clearly above the national average, and employment among people in their twenties is among the lowest in the country. Do not expect to quickly land an English-speaking job without Swedish, because the job market is tough even for qualified people."},{"type":"p","text":"The picture on safety is less dramatic than the reputation sometimes suggests. The number of reported crimes is actually below the national average. The municipality has one area on the police situation report, Kronogården and Lextorp Norra, classed as a police-designated vulnerable area. These are the same districts that stand out in the income and education statistics, and the picture of a divided town recurs in both figures and everyday life. Anyone looking for housing who wants to play it safe tends to look west of the river."},{"type":"p","text":"Trollhättan suits people who want a mid-sized town with jobs in industry and engineering, nature and the river on the doorstep, and Gothenburg within commuting distance without the big-city price tag. Students are drawn by a good university with a roof over their heads thrown in. Think twice if you depend on qualified work without Swedish under your belt, or if you are after big-city range and life, because the town is honestly on the quiet side. And as everywhere, which part you end up in makes a big difference."}],"kallor_en":"Draft.
