It rarely appears in the national press and is almost never mentioned when people weigh municipalities against each other. Its best known landmark is not even a place to live, but an aeroplane: a retired Viggen fighter jet at a rest stop outside the settlement, which people pass on their way somewhere else. That says something about the municipality's role. From here it is roughly half an hour by car to Trollhättan and Högskolan Väst university college, and parts of the municipality are closer than that. There is admittedly a station in the settlement, but the train connection is thin compared with the neighbouring municipalities', and in practice you live here and travel from here for work, studies and a wider range of amenities."},{"type":"p","text":"Economically it is a stable, unglamorous rural municipality. Median income of SEK 340,000 (2024) sits roughly at the national municipal median, and the share with low financial standard, twelve per cent, is below the national average. Unemployment is clearly below the national level, and among young adults in their twenties employment is clearly above average. This is an area where people work rather than continue studying, and the share with longer post-secondary education, just over eighteen per cent, is below the national level, which ties in with the farming and industry dominated labour market."},{"type":"p","text":"Safety is one of the municipality's strongest points. The number of reported crimes per resident (2025) is clearly below the national average, and Grästorp has no areas on the police's list of vulnerable areas. At the same time, even a small municipality is not entirely immune. A widely reported arson attack on a detached house in 2025, which police linked to a shooting, put Grästorp in the news too.
