The identity also runs deep. In and around Båstad itself there are around twenty restaurants, about as many cafes, a range of clothes shops, gyms and hotels, plus museums such as the Birgit Nilsson Museum and the maritime collection out on Väderö. Much of this is aimed at the summer visitor and runs on a trickle in November. The surrounding villages, Förslöv, Grevie, Torekov and Östra Karup, mostly have just the essentials, often a grocery shop and a school, so for most things you have to head towards the town centre or along the coast. The train gets you to Halmstad in around twenty minutes and Helsingborg in just under half an hour, although the station is a fair distance outside the centre. Anyone who is young, moving alone or needs city life year round should think it through, since the winter half of the year is quiet and the nightlife has thinned out even in peak season.
