Det stora dragplåstret är naturen. Torups bokskog med sitt slott är Malmöbornas närmaste stora skogsområde och ligger i kommunen, ungefär en mil från storstaden, med friluftsgård, vandring och bad. Runt omkring finns naturreservat, ett trettiotal parker och flera kyrkoruiner att botanisera bland. För den som gillar friluftsliv är läget svårslaget. Old Svedala has long been slang for Sweden, so the town itself easily ends up in the shadow of its own name. In reality it is a calm commuter municipality in the ring around Malmö, just over 23,700 residents spread across the main town of Svedala along with Bara and Klågerup. As a place to live in and commute from it works well, cheaper than Malmö's detached-house neighbourhoods but far from cheap, and close enough that the big city's job market is a daily reality."},{"type":"p","text":"The range of services is more than enough for a municipality of this size. Just under ten grocery stores spread across the towns, ICA, Coop and Hemköp, plus a pharmacy, health centres, a library and a bank. Eating out means around twenty restaurants and pizzerias and a handful of cafés, including a castle café and bakeries out in the countryside, but for a really wide range of restaurants and entertainment people go into Malmö. The big draw is nature. Torup's beech forest with its castle is the closest large forest area for people in Malmö and lies within the municipality, roughly 10 km from the city, with an outdoor recreation centre, hiking and swimming. Around it there are nature reserves, around thirty parks and several ruined churches to explore. For anyone who likes outdoor life, the location is hard to beat. There are also a couple of local curiosities, from the Statare Museum to Sturup Airport and the race track just next to it."},{"type":"h2","text":"Stable prosperity, evenly spread"},{"type":"p","text":"The statistics paint the picture of one of the country's more affluent commuter municipalities, and what stands out about Svedala is how evenly the prosperity is spread. Median income is clearly above the national municipal median, and the share living on a tight budget is among the lowest in the country. Unlike many neighbouring municipalities, the differences within the municipality are small. Even the sub-area with the lowest median income, around Marbäck and Naverlönn, is above the national level, while Klågerup and Bara top the list. Three in ten have at least three years of higher education, clearly above the national average, and unemployment is somewhat below the national municipal median. This is not a municipality with a weak side and a strong side, but a fairly consistent middle class throughout."},{"type":"p","text":"Safety is one of the stronger cards. The number of reported crimes per resident is clearly below the national level, and the police do not point to any police-designated vulnerable areas. Among Malmö's ring municipalities, Svedala is among those least affected by crime, and blue-light incidents are scarce.
