Rättsprocessen blev ett eget trauma. De drabbade vann mot det kommunala vattenbolaget i tingsrätten 2021, förlorade i hovrätten året därpå, fick stå för motpartens rättegångskostnader och drev frågan vidare till Högsta domstolen. Brunnsbadet och den vidsträckta Brunnsparken är ortens stolthet, och runt om ligger ett tiotal campingplatser, naturreservat och kusten med Ekenäs och färjorna ut mot Tjärö och Karön. Vill man röra på sig finns isarena, ett femtontal sporthallar och idrottsplatser och gott om utsiktspunkter. Utbudet är koncentrerat till centralorten. Kallinge, Bräkne-Hoby och Listerby har det egna lilla, och längre ut i Backaryd, Hallabro och Eringsboda tar landsbygden över, med en lanthandel och en skola men föga mer."},{"type":"p","text":"Statistiken tecknar en kommun i ekonomisk motvind. For many, the town became unsafe in a way it had not been before. Others object that the town they visited was strikingly empty and uneventful, and Ronneby and Kallinge have been called the country's dullest towns. Those impressions align rather than conflict, a small, quiet town where a crime wave shook things up all the more. PFAS from firefighting foam used in the air wing's exercises contaminated the water in Kallinge, and residents were found to have blood levels more than a thousand times above what is now considered safe, according to the international press the world's worst known PFAS contamination. Studies of Ronneby residents have linked the exposure to an increased risk of, among other things, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and the hormonal condition PCOS, and several members of the board of the local PFAS association have since developed cancer. The legal process became a trauma in its own right. Those affected won against the municipal water company in the district court in 2021, lost in the court of appeal the following year, were ordered to cover the other party's legal costs, and took the matter on to the Supreme Court. It is a legacy that has not yet reached its final chapter."},{"type":"h2","text":"Everyday life, jobs and divides"},{"type":"p","text":"Behind the headlines there is a functioning everyday life. In Ronneby town centre and the Diamanten shopping centre there are around twenty grocery stores across the municipality, a couple of dozen restaurants and pizzerias, around ten cafes, the Centrumbiografen cinema and Ronneby Teater. Brunnsbadet and the sprawling Brunnsparken are the town's pride, and around it there are around ten campsites, nature reserves and the coast with Ekenäs and the ferries out to Tjärö and Karön. For exercise there is an ice arena, around fifteen sports halls and sports grounds and plenty of viewpoints. The range of amenities is concentrated in the main town. Kallinge, Bräkne-Hoby and Listerby have their own small offering, and further out in Backaryd, Hallabro and Eringsboda the countryside takes over, with a village shop and a school but little more."},{"type":"p","text":"The statistics paint a municipality facing economic headwinds.
