Här finns ett eget lasarett, ett bibliotek och flera museer, däribland Sagomuseet, Ljungbergmuseet och, lite oväntat, ett litet museum tillägnat Metallicas Cliff Burton, som omkom i en bussolycka utanför staden. Vill man röra på sig finns simhall, padelhallar, ishall och ett rikt föreningsliv. When Ljungby reaches the national media, it is usually for isolated incidents, like the country's coldest summer day, and the town's own self-image is low-key, almost self-deprecating. You can eat out at nearly thirty restaurants, everything from Thai and sushi to pizza and pub food, have a coffee at around fifteen cafés, and grab a beer at one of the town's pubs and sports bars. There is even a small nightclub and a cinema at Garvaren. Retail covers most everyday needs with several supermarkets, the Månen shopping centre, a state-run off-licence (Systembolaget) and clothing shops such as KappAhl and Lindex. There is a hospital, a library and several museums, including the Sagomuseet fairy-tale museum, the Ljungbergmuseet, and, somewhat unexpectedly, a small museum dedicated to Metallica's Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident outside the town. For those who want to be active there is a swimming pool, padel courts, an ice rink and a rich club scene. Lake Bolmen to the west offers canoe hire and the small Bolmsö ferry, the Store Mosse National Park lies a drive to the north, and the municipality is full of campsites, nature reserves and bathing spots. Almost all of this, though, requires a car. Train commuting is not an option, the railway was torn up long ago, and anyone wanting to reach the rail network has to start with a bus towards Alvesta. People commute back and forth between Ljungby, Växjö and Älmhult, and employers include industry and technology firms, among them a development centre for trucks. The statistics point the same way. Median income is just above the national average, unemployment is around the national average, and the share of residents with a tight economy is somewhat lower than in the country as a whole. Just under one in five residents has at least three years of higher education, somewhat below average, while an unusually high number of young people are in work. Incomes range from lower levels in Ljungby centrum to the highest in Replösa, and the centre also has the largest share with tight margins. Safety does not stand out.
