The town has around ten restaurants and about as many cafes, two cinemas, a bookshop, a Systembolaget and several grocery shops. The old town is at the same time a destination in its own right, and an unusually dense cultural life has grown up around it: half a dozen museums, including Eksjö Museum, the Albert Engström House, and Filmbyn Småland in Mariannelund, where several Astrid Lindgren films were shot. For those who want to be active there is a swimming pool, bowling, a couple of gyms and around ten sports halls and sports facilities. Around the municipality there are lakes, nature reserves and a long list of campsites, so the conditions for outdoor life are good. Most of the range of shops and services is in Eksjö, while Mariannelund, Ingatorp and the smaller settlements have the essentials and not much more. Several of the settlements have a railway station, which makes commuting possible, but if you live in the countryside a car is in practice a necessity."},{"type":"p","text":"The differences show up in the economy. The municipality's median income hits almost exactly the national average, but the range within the municipality is large: from just under SEK 280,000 in one of the town areas to over SEK 380,000 in the western countryside. The situation is weakest in Mariannelund, where a quarter live on a low economic standard and education levels are the municipality's lowest. As a whole, though, Eksjö is more educated than Sweden's municipalities in general, a quarter of adults have an extended higher education, and employment is clearly above the national average.
