Two grocery shops, an ICA and a Coop, cover the essentials. Eating out is more of an outing than an everyday choice: a couple of cafés and really only one proper restaurant, the inn in Sunhult out in the countryside. Anyone wanting to be active will find a swimming pool and a couple of sports halls, and around the town there are nature reserves, small lakes and a few campsites for anyone wanting to get out. The area is full of churches and hostels, but for shopping, cinema and entertainment people have to plan on going to one of the neighbouring towns. Median income is just above the national municipal median, unemployment somewhat below it, and a striking number of young adults are in work, often straight after school. On the other hand, longer higher education is uncommon, the familiar pattern in a small working municipality where the jobs exist but degrees are fewer. The differences within the municipality are moderate but visible. In Aneby östra around one in five residents live on a tight budget and median income is lowest, while Aneby nordvästra is clearly better off. It is safe.
