The town centre holds around forty restaurants, some twenty cafes, a handful of bars, a cinema and several shopping centres, with department stores and a wide range of shops. There is the Sörmland museum, a theatre and concert hall at Culturum, the castle with the Slottsvakten cultural centre, and a harbour that in summer fills with people at the quayside restaurants. If you want to be active there are several gyms, the Rosvalla sports facility, around twenty swimming baths and its own small ski slope. Around the town there are sea bathing spots, nature reserves such as Stendörren and Nynäs, and a large number of campsites along the coast. Median income of SEK 345,400 (2024) is just above the national municipal median, and the share with longer post-secondary education is somewhat above average, but unemployment at 6.2 per cent (2024) is clearly higher than the national municipal median.
