In Tierp itself there is most of what you need day to day: around ten grocery stores across the municipality including ICA, Coop, Lidl and Hemköp, around twenty restaurants, a handful of cafes, a state-run off-licence Systembolaget, a cinema in the Möbeln cultural centre and a health centre. Örbyhus, Söderfors and Karlholm have their own ICA or Coop and the basics, but for wider shopping and entertainment people go to Uppsala or Gävle. The downside is as clear as the train connections are good. Not much happens. The main town is unremarkable, the community grew up around the railway while the church was left outside it, and some of the smaller places along the stretch towards Östhammar feel run down.
