This is fundamentally a port town. Traffic to Gotland has run from here for over a hundred years, cruise ships that do not fit inside Stockholm dock here, and the oil refinery has shaped the town since the 1920s. Just over 30,000 people live in the municipality. Commuter rail all the way, housing that can be bought on an ordinary salary and archipelago right outside the door. Nature is what gets praised most. The guest harbour is among the country's best equipped, the Sörmlandsleden hiking trail starts in the town, and both the sea and mushroom forests are on the doorstep.
